HOW DO I CANCEL AN UBS ACCOUNT?

There are four ways to cancel a UBS account:

A. Online with a smartphone
B. Online with a computer 
C. By post 
D. At a UBS branch

For the UBS/Elbit campaign as a whole and in order to measure its impact, it would be very useful for us to keep track of account closure requests. These documents will be confidentially archived by us. We therefore invite you to send us an e-mail with a document certifying your cancellation. (privacy policies)

  • STEP-TO-STEP GUIDE

You will need to have the following documents/information whichever way you choose to cancel your account :

  • Number of the account or banking relationship you wish to terminate ;
  • Beneficiary: name and address of the new account holder to whom you wish to credit your assets. Please note that you must have already opened a new bank or post office account to which the balance of your account can be credited. Even if you do not have a large amount in your UBS account when cancellating, it is important to leave a minimum amount (which varies depending on the situation). UBS will then calculate the current charges and deduct them from your balance before transferring your money to another account. Unfortunately, it does not seem possible to cancel without opening another account elsewhere ;
  • Bank details : IBAN, currency and name of your new bank account ;
  • Desired closure date (immediate or later) ;
  • Telephone number (in order to contact you for questions when cancelling by post) ;
  • Passport or identity document (only required if you are cancelling at a UBS branch)

A. ONLINE CANCELLATION THROUGH A SMARTPHONE

1. Log in to the mobile banking app

2. Open your home page mailbox, top right click on the message icon

3. Select « UBS Mailbox » then « New message »

4. Mention « Cancel account or banking relationship » in the subject line

5. Enter the following information in the message:

  • Number of the account or banking relationship you wish to cancel
  • Name and address of the account holder to whom you wish to credit your assets
  • Bank details: IBAN, currency and name of the beneficiary’s new account/bank
  • Requested closure date (immediate or later)
  • Telephone number
  • The reason why you decide to close your account, for example: “I have taken this decision following your massive investment in Elbit Systems, a company that provides the material resources for the Israeli army to commit genocide in Gaza and maintain the apartheid system in the Occupied Palestinian territories. I condemn this immoral attitude and therefore wish to terminate our banking relationship. Furthermore, I plan to boycott your services for as long as your investments fuel crimes against humanity.”

  1. ONLINE CANCELLATION THROUGH A COMPUTER

1. Log on to E-Banking


2. Select « Mailbox » then « Message to customer advisor ».


3. Write « Cancel account or banking relationship » in the subject line.

4. Enter the following information :

  • Number of the account or banking relationship you wish to cancel
  • Beneficiary: name and address of the account holder to whom you wish to credit your assets
  • Bank details: IBAN, currency and name of the beneficiary’s new account/bank
  • Requested closure date (immediate or later)
  • Telephone number (to contact you if you have any questions)
  • The reason why you decide to close your account, for example: “I have taken this decision following your massive investment in Elbit Systems, a company that provides the material resources for the Israeli army to commit genocide in Gaza and maintain the apartheid system in the Occupied Palestinian territories. I condemn this immoral attitude and therefore wish to terminate our banking relationship. Furthermore, I plan to boycott your services for as long as your investments fuel crimes against humanity.”

5. Select ‘Send’.

  1. CANCELLATION BY POST

    Send a signed cancellation letter (letter template) to the following address:

D. CANCELLATION AT A UBS BRANCH

Visit one of the branches to cancel your account. You can go there without an appointment and ask for an adviser on the spot, or you can make an appointment by calling +41 800 002 984.

You will need to provide the following information during the meeting:

  • Beneficiary: name, address and new bank details (IBAN, BIC/Swift) of the account holder to which you wish to credit your assets ;
  • Valid identity card or passport ;
  • Desired account closure date.
  • Then explain the reason why you’ve decided to close your account. If you prefer, you can, for instance, read the following text:
    “I have taken this decision following your massive investment in Elbit Systems, a company that provides the material resources for the Israeli army to commit genocide in Gaza and maintain the apartheid system in the Occupied Palestinian territories. I condemn this immoral attitude and therefore wish to terminate our banking relationship. Furthermore, I plan to boycott your services for as long as your investments fuel crimes against humanity.”
